Sebring International Raceway - April 2, 2006

On April 2, 2006, NASA Florida Region held its second Time Trials Competition at Sebring International Raceway.  This was just two weeks after the Historic 12 Hour Race dominated by the new Audi.

The weather was beautiful for a Track Day and Time Trial.  The scene was accentuated by several World War II era aircraft that were practicing formation flying from the airport.

Our TT field began with only six competitors.  However, the number grew to nine by the time we started the official sessions.  We believe that this secondary draw was a result of HPDE4 drivers realizing that nothing more is required of them to compete than a transponder and simply filing out the application and classification forms.  As of Monday evening two more members have stated their intention to run at the event at Homestead on April 29 and 30.

Hal Prewitt had the fastest TT time of the day with a lap time of 2:15.50 in his Orange Grower's Porsche GT3 Cup.  However, I believe he actually ran two or three seconds quicker during race qualifying.  Barry Ellis was close behind Hal withhis own GT3 Cup.  However, the Porsche suffered from a mechanical problem that ended Barry's day early.
