End of Summer News

Summer is technically over, although we haven't been able to tell from the weather yet.  The end of summer brought with it, from September 14th through the 17th, the first ever NASA National Championships in Ohio at Mid-Ohio Motorsports Complex.

Florida Region Time Trial Division was represented by Steve Nix, the Regional NASA Director.  Steve found the competition level much more intense than he was used to.  He also found the Mid-Ohio track presented many new challenges with its elevation changes and blind corners.

NASA Florida was also represented by Raffaell Ambivero & Curt Pendergrass in 944 Cup; Al Wicht in American Iron Extreme; John Studdard & Hal Prewitt in German Touring Series; Ed Boothman in Factory 5; Derek Whitis in SU NASA Spec Miata; and, Bill Switzer who was an Official and Race Starter.  Just as he has done in many of our regional races, Hal Prewitt won his race hands down! If you run into any of these NASA Florida Racers, please acknowledge them for showing up for the region.

Steve found the NAtionals were very well organized and the programs well executed.  NASA's national event showed that NASA is a top level racing club.  Steve found the various regions well represented in each of the race classes.  He hopes to increase membership in the Florida Region and raise the participation in some more of those classes here in Florida.

The Sebring event earlier in October saw great participation.  The Time Trials had seventeen participants over the weekend.  Steve Nix set a track record for TTU and Peter Bekkers set his for TTB.  Most of the other TT'ers also had personal best times at Sebring.  In addition, the Race Group saw one of its largest starting fields.  It was a great weekend.

The next two events will be at Homestead.  We are holding an event the weekend after Thanksgiving.  In December we will be holding the NASA Caribbean Grand Prix.
