Hello NASA NorCal Time Trials Participant, I am EXTREMELY pleased to announce the following new changes for the NASA NorCal Time Trials Series. Please excuse my last email dated June 6, 2006 as those changes will NOT go into effect. I also apologize for the back and forth confusion and conflicting information. I trust this email will set the record straight. Thanks to the vision of our National Director, Jerry Kunzman, the support of our group leader Albert Butterfield, our consistent solid turnout and your valuable feedback to NASA administration, we finally have our own run group in NorCal. Contrary to my previous email, sessions 2, 3 and 4 WILL count toward scoring just like it has always been. This means you may take your best lap time from any of the last three sessions to be used for scoring. (The first session will always serve as a warm up session) We will also be gridding according to lap times in BOTH session 3 and session 4. This will allow us to get clean air in two full sessions. Please read the email below from Mr. Kunzman as it explains the changes to HPDE and TT in the NorCal region. Once again, this is VERY big news for our program. It is a testament to the success of our new series and to the quality of our drivers. You should all be very proud of this achievement. I look forward to seeing you all at the track. Keep the shiny side up! John Anderson NASA NorCal Time Trials Director
Dear NASA Nor Cal Officials, Nor Cal has made the following changes: 1) Nor Cal TT program will have its own run group for the remainder of 2006 and beyond; effective immediately. All standard timing rules apply as listed in the national rulebook. The Nor Cal TT Director still reserves the right make adjustments as necessary, if needed (no change here). 2) Group 1&2 remain unchanged. 3) The HPDE 3 program is four 20-minute sessions per day (like all other HPDE groups), however it's now a two-day training program. Saturday will still be the same, whereas you slowly work up to passing everywhere by the end of the day. Sunday will be a continuation, starting with passing everywhere in the first session and then picking up the pace in the subsequent sessions. HPDE 3 is only available on Saturday or both days. Sunday only entries will not be accepted. No exceptions. 4) Group 4 drivers will share the track with Group 3 drivers for four events in 2006: June 24-25, August 12-13, October 7-8, and November 11-12. Group 4 drivers will have their own sessions on all weekday events, including Friday, Aug 11. Additionally, Group 4 will have their own group September 9-10 at Infineon. In 2007 we will resume the regular Group 3 separated from Group 4. 5) The Group 3/4 sessions will run under hybrid passing rules (for the first few sessions on Sat) as we have in the past, generically noted as “open track.” This Group 3/4 combined will be run under the guidance of Albert Butterfield and Steve Romine. 6) It should be noted that any Group 4 driver that wishes to move into the TT group may do so, simply by signing up for any TT class and not running a transponder. 7) All instructors will be allowed track time in the TT ONLY. They can be timed or not. No instructors allowed in the Group 3/4 sessions. 8) Instructors that spin or go off track in the TT sessions will be treated like any other participant, if they remove the “X”s from their cars before the session. Those instructors that spin or go off track with “X”s on their cars at anytime will answer to the black flag station, group leaders, and then to Ralph (in that order); and will be dealt with most severely. 9) Group 3/4 will be limited to approximately 40-45 cars and no more (i.e. no instructors). This should be pleasing to those G4 drivers that wanted a less crowded track; and remember, they always have the option to run with the TTers if they like a little faster pace. After a long hard week of analysis, I believe that this is the very best thing for all groups in the long range. Thank you, Jerry Kunzman Nor Cal Regional Director
