Mid Ohio August 2006

#27

I’m changing my number to #27.  That is the number of stitches it took to put my leg back together!  If you missed it, and you may have since you were probably in the download session with Bill Marquardt, I slipped coming off the wall after doing the FFR/CMC standing start Sunday afternoon and cut my leg on the armco.  There’s a lot more to the story, but I don’t want to bore you.  Thanks to all who called me or waited around for my return.

The weekend at Mid Ohio was another fantastic one.  The weather was perfect and the track was really fast.  Unofficially I think there were records set in almost every TT class.  The event was sold out virtually across the board, yet things seemed to go pretty smoothly.  We had a fair amount of open track time, relatively few incidents, and overall our sessions went great.  We also had lots of new drivers including a bunch of racers all looking to meet the 5 event Championships qualifications.  Time Trials continue to grow!

Memorable moments:

• Glen Brown with his 1080degree spin going through turn one at warp speed and into the gravel trap

• David Debord for having the largest class ID of the weekend.  The giant TTB on the back windshield of his black M3.

• Jon Krolweicz who’s Evo almost tore the new pavement out of the backstretch as it ripped away from everyone, peaking at 157MPH down the backstretch

• Danny Popp for the best burnout as he sent me a little signal going by turns 7-8 on the first lap on Sunday

• Charlie Mason & Bill Biagi for tearing up TTD, even though there was a major player out for the weekend.  And I’m not talking about Allen Skillicorn.

• Lara Korth for laying her new Spec Miata in TT for the 1st time

• The Aim Tuning Tech Team for pushing through tons of TT cars getting their tech logbooks

Quick Clarification:  Per the TT Rules, “Any TT competitor that placed four wheels off course or spins in a session will lose any timed result for that session.”  T&S should DQ that session so it will show up that way at MyLaps.

The National Auto Sports Association Championships are up next!  You will be receiving some additional information for all of those participating.  There will be a special Championship class form and of course the Chief Scrutineer, Dr Greenbaum, will be on hand.  Please review your cars for class/points accuracy.  The last thing we want is to have to deal with a class issue during the events.  All cars will have full tech inspections, class/points review inspections and potential weight and dyno verification.  E-mail me any questions so we can get an official response in writing prior to the event.

And don’t forget our season closing event at Putnam Park in October!
