The Southern California region kicked off the 2008 season points opener at Willow Springs International Raceway on February 9th and 10th.  This was our first year to include the Winter event in our championship series points total, and we had a good turnout of drivers.  TTR and TTB were the largest classes, with six and seven drivers respectively.  Congratulations go out to Scott Howard (TTS) and Shawn Dolan (TTD) who both set new track records on Sunday.

Our next event will be at California Speedway on March 21st and 22nd, and the event is already sold-out.  If you want to get on the waiting list, contact greg@nasa-tt.com.  Registration is now available for our first Buttonwillow event of the year on April 26th and 27th.  We will be running configuration #13 clockwise.  This event has also sold out in the past, so please register early if you are interested in participating.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone,

I hope Santa brings each and every one of you some nice car parts.  As you can see, I'm a little late getting this wrap-up article out to you, but I have not been idle.  Over the past 6 weeks, I have been working on the '07 TT, PT, and new ST (Super Touring) Rules with every spare minute I have, and then some.  The result of all of this work was presented in an initial beta test release of the TT Rules on Dec. 8th, followed by the actual official '07 TT and PT Rules release on Dec. 16th.  The Super Touring Rules were released on Nov. 30th, giving a preview to our upper level TT drivers of how they are going to be classing their cars in 2007.  If you haven't seen the '07 Rules yet, you are in for some surprises....

The 2006 SoCal NASA TT season is coming to an end.  Our last event of the year will be at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on Nov 11-12, using track configuration #1 CW (full course--with Star Mazda and the Bus Stop).  Our run group filled up for our recent event at Buttonwillow, so I suggest that you register now to make sure that you get a spot.  This should be a great way to end the season, because I believe there is a good chance that we can make new track records in every class.  The last time we ran this configuration was in April 2004, and our group has certainly become much faster since that time.  We had seven new track records two weeks ago, but I think it will be eight this time.

Our recent Buttonwillow event put us at 115 SoCal TT drivers for the year to date, keeping SoCal and NorCal the largest NASA TT regions in the country (followed closely by Ohio/Indiana).  The following drivers set new track records:

Also of note is that Karen Salvagio took first place in TTA both days, but missed the track record by .07 seconds.   Team Bullet Motorsports Speed took first place in TTB on Saturday with a track record, but it was broken on Sunday by John Wheeler (before he blew his engine up--again).  All results, records, and standings are posted on the TT website in the SoCal section.  http://nasa-tt.com/Socal_Standings

So, here's how things are looking in the SoCal TT Championship series as we head into our last event.

This season seems to be flying by as we approach the National Championships in just 7 weeks, and finish out the 2006 SoCal Championship Series with our August 5-6 event at Willow Springs, followed by back-to-back events at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in October and November.  We have had 100 drivers/teams compete with us so far this year (including our February WSIR event), with the largest number (20) surprisingly in TTC.  With 6 events and 600 points still at stake, we have seven of the eight classes with the top two drivers separated by 125 points or less.  So, the top drivers are going to have to be consistent in all six of the remaining event days if they want to win a Championship.

Turning up the heat at Willow Springs 5-06

We put our 5th and 6th event days of the 2006 SoCal TT season into the books this past weekend with 33 TT drivers participating.  We have now had 75 drivers (over 230 entries) participate in the SoCal TT program so far in 2006, with 10 event days to go.  We had tight competition in all classes from TTE through TTR....

Drivers came from all over the Western States to sunny Southern California for our NASA TT championship season opener event at California Speedway the second weekend in March.  Registration prior to the event was nothing short of immense.  We had at least 52 TT drivers scheduled to come out and compete with us, coming from Seattle, Arizona, Las Vegas, and both Northern and Southern California.  It was a setup for the perfect weekend of TT--a record breaker in terms of both numbers of participants and lap times.  TT finally got its own run group for an entire event.

It was billed as a "shake down the car" event with the chance of a track record, and thats exactly what it turned out to be.  We didn't have large numbers of drivers like we will at our first points event in March (21 total), but we did have a lot of track time (200 minutes) to test, tune, and break-down.  Yes, it was a great event for many of us, because hopefully, we have found the things that were potentially going to break at Cal Speedway, and now we have 3 weeks to fix them.
